Living-Learning Communities

Living-Learning Communities are small groups or "clusters" of first year students who are enrolled in the same academic program, and share living space and friendships. This program is designed to help new students adjust to the challenges of university life and study.

Why be involved?

  • Live and grow academically and socially with other first year students in your program
  • Develop relationships and connect with upper year students (Peer Leaders), faculty, staff and alumni in your program
  • Enhance in-class learning by participating in academic events facilitated by your Peer Leader (i.e. study skill sessions, ePortfolio workshops)
  • Participate in residence and campus wide activities with people from a variety of backgrounds and programs

Accountancy Living-Learning Community logoWe have partnered up with the School of Accountancy for our first Living-Learning Community in September 2006. First-year students from the following programs have the opportunity to be involved:

  • Accounting & Financial Management
  • Biotechnology/Chartered Accountancy
  • Computing & Financial Management
  • Mathematics/Chartered Accountancy

Some of the events may include such things as study skills sessions for accountancy students, opportunities to interact with faculty and alumni in an outside-of-classroom environment, and writing help clinics. These programs will be developed and facilitated by Peer Leaders, who are upper-year accountancy students.

Q: Can I be involved even if I'm not living in the Village 1 clusters?

Yes, many of the major academic support programs will be advertised and available to all accountancy students. There will also be online resource materials for most of the living-learning community programs. You will learn more about these programs and materials after you start classes in September.
